DJ Def Cut is an internationally known Hip-Hop, Breakbeat, and Funk DJ and producer with over 25 years of experience in the music industry.

Born in Basel, Switzerland, no one could have predicted Goran Bacic’s eventual international reputation. He was introduced to hip hop through the film “Beat Street” (1984). Since then, breakdancing and turntables have increasingly become the focus of his life. When choosing between homework and scratching, the decision was always easy.

Over time, Def Cut began to focus on producing tracks. In 1996, he bought a sampler that became the centerpiece of his work. That same year, he released his first 12″ single, «On The Run». In 1998, he released his first song, «The Future», on the local «Battle Of The Year» soundtrack. With massive beats and high-speed scratches, he quickly made a name for himself by producing one track after another for the scene.

Def Cut set up a studio in Basel and after his first release «Return To Burn» he became the breakbeat king of Switzerland. Def Cut tours with Spooman, Toni-L, Zako, and many more, performs all over the world and is responsible for building a domestic hip hop network.

In 2010, Def Cut relocated to Heidelberg, where he spent eight years. During this time, he received a Gold Record from Kollegah for his recording and mixing work on the album «Imperator.» Subsequently, he spent one year in Ibiza before returning to Switzerland in 2019. Throughout his tenure in Heidelberg, Def Cut played a pivotal role in shaping the local hip hop scene, collaborating with various artists, and contributing to numerous projects. His collaboration with Kollegah, one of Germany’s most prominent rappers, garnered him significant acclaim and further cemented his status in the industry.

In Ibiza, he immersed himself in the vibrant music culture, drawing inspiration from the island’s eclectic sounds and energetic nightlife. This period added a new dimension to his music, blending the laid-back, rhythmic vibes of Ibiza with his signature high-energy breakbeats.

Returning to Switzerland, Def Cut continued to innovate and influence the hip hop and breakdance scenes. His studio in Basel became a hub for local talent, fostering a new generation of artists who looked up to him as a mentor and pioneer. His legacy in the breakdance scene is unparalleled, with dancers around the world still moving to his beats and scratches.

Def Cut’s impact extends beyond music production and DJing. He has been a crucial figure in building a domestic hip hop network in Switzerland, connecting artists, DJs, and producers, and promoting the culture both locally and internationally. His contributions have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, and his music remains a staple in the playlists of hip hop and breakdance enthusiasts worldwide.
