THE STORY BEHIND DEF CUT

THREE DECADES. ONE PASSION.

From the foundations of hip-hop culture to international stages and a new chapter in house music. More than three decades of beats, records, productions and unforgettable nights.

01 / THE ROOTS

BUILT ON HIP-HOP.

Born and raised in Basel, Switzerland, DEF CUT began his musical journey in the 1990s, deeply rooted in hip-hop, breakdance culture and turntablism.
Before releasing his first record, he was already producing music for breakdance crews including Basel City Attack and Rockin’ till Death.
His early release On The Run found its way to Germany’s MZEE Records, opening the door to the international B-boy scene. In 1998, his music appeared on the legendary Battle of the Year compilation.
What started as a passion for beats and scratching was becoming a career.

02 / THE BREAKTHROUGH

FROM BASEL TO THE WORLD.

With his early albums Return to Burn and Street Level, DEF CUT established himself as a producer in the international breakbeat and hip-hop community.
His records reached audiences in Europe, Japan and the United States, while his performances took him to clubs, festivals and events across Europe.
From Battle of the Year to France’s Transmusicales festival, and from London and Milan to Zagreb and Belgrade, his sound crossed borders long before streaming changed the industry.
His work earned recognition including a Swiss Hip Hop Awards nomination and the title “Godfather of Breaks” from Germany’s Juice magazine.

03 / THE LEGACY

MORE THAN A DJ.

Over the years, DEF CUT built an extensive catalogue of original productions, albums, remixes and mixtapes.
His credits include collaborations and work connected to artists such as Toni L, Spooman, Greis, Sonny Seeza of Onyx and Kollegah.
In 2016, he was involved in the recording of Kollegah’s chart-topping album Imperator, adding another milestone to a career spanning underground hip-hop and commercial success.
Alongside his work for other artists, DEF CUT continued releasing music independently through his own labels, including Win The Crowd Records, Original B-Boy Records and DCP.

04 / THE EVOLUTION

HIP-HOP ROOTS. HOUSE EVOLUTION.

Music never stands still. Neither does DEF CUT.
After decades immersed in hip-hop, funk, soul and club culture, his musical journey has naturally evolved toward house music.
Today, his sets move between funky house, disco-inspired grooves, tribal rhythms and driving tech-house energy, while his hip-hop background remains an unmistakable part of his musical identity.
Whether behind the decks at an intimate club or performing on an international stage, the mission remains unchanged: CONNECT WITH THE MUSIC. MOVE THE CROWD. NEVER LOSE THE PASSION.

THIRTY YEARS OF MUSIC. AND THE STORY CONTINUES.
